The 18th Daihatsu ABC Badminton National Primary School Tournament
Gunma Prefecture Qualifications Report
Located in the Southeastern part of Gunma prefecture, Ota-shi is its 3rd largest industrial city. On 27th May, it was here in "Ota-shi Nitta Airys Arena", the city's Sports and Cultural complex facility, that the Gunma prefecture qualifications were held.
Approximately 300 students from Primary 1 to 6 took part - a number much larger than the previous year. Commencing the competition from 830 in the morning, energetic and lively matches continued all the way till the evening.
As for the Class C Girls (primary 1 to 2), the petite player sent her shuttlecocks with sharp strokes. However, this was received by her opponent in calmness and returned with high accuracy. When the match was concluded with a win by Sudo, the petite player shed tears near the net and it was a sight that was very much representative of the innocence of Class C.

From Gunma Prefecture Primary School Badminton Federation
Sadao Takano (Gunma Prefecture Primary School Badminton Federation Chairman)
“The number of registered players in the prefecture increased year by year and has exceeded the target of 400 people. Although the standards of the Kanto area is high and there is a need for Gunma prefecture to work even harder, there are players here that can play at the National level. With a company like Daihatsu cooperating a domestic tournament despite the fact that there are no professional leagues as in baseball or soccer, I am glad that we can raise its awareness widely.”

On the day itself, despite the rainy and slightly chilly weather, the competitors and their families formed queues from 730am before the opening of the sports hall. After entrance, the competitors split up into their respective teams to start their practice. On the 1st storey of the hall, the Daihatsu support staff for the tournament welcomed everyone with smiles on their faces, distributing stick balloons and sports drinks for cheering purposes. While handing the items out, voices of “Please do your best! Good luck!” could be heard.
Additionally, “Free basic inspection of your car” was carried out at the parking lots adjacent to the tournament venue. Regardless of the brand and type of the vehicles, the Daihatsu staff carefully inspected the cars of the people who drove in and requested for the service.
On the other hand, the spectators started to heat up in the arena from the point when the best 4 were made known. The rhythm of the clapping of the stick balloons started to harmonize and unity in the respective courts was born.
