I want to train a lot, and play one game at a time using skills that I didn’t know before. I only played 1 game at last year’s national tournament, so I hope to win many games this year. - Who is your favourite badminton player?

Masayoshi HONMA(Niigata Prefecture School Children Badminton Federation Executive Director)
I think the students who managed to win their way through this Niigata prefecture qualifying tournament have put in a really big effort every day. I hope they thoroughly prepare for the national tournament in a way they won’t regret, and enjoy their matches.
The goal is to develop players who can perform well at the national tournament and even achieve good result at global level in the future. Together with all the badminton lovers in the prefecture, I hope we can build the foundations for the culture and environment that we need to achieve this. Like all other sports, as we are facing the problem of the decreasing number of children in Japan, we hope to be a badminton federation that is an appealing choice for the kids.

It was my first time seeing a primary school badminton tournament, and I was really moved to see the year 1 and year 2 students putting in so much effort. I was also happy to hear players telling me that their parents drive a Daihatsu car.
As we continue to support popularizing badminton, I hope to further deepen our connections with all of you who participate in the sport.
